This sounds just like you’re sitting in the 10th row center. I’ll take an AUD like this over a SB any day!
Was at this show, always loved Portland - Maine shows rocked. Two months later I was graduated from college and moved to SF and kicked things off with the 20th Anniversary shows at The Greek then Ventura. 1985 was a very good year for so many reasons!

Here is the verse Jerry sings with Phil...
Up on Housing Project Hill, it's either fortune or fame
You must pick up one or the other
Though neither of them are to be what they claim
If you're lookin' to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don't need you and man, they expect the same

Great show, the china rider is very good! As is most of the show! But this being the 2nd Tom Thumb's Blues, Jerry actually sings with Phil on part of it, the only time I have heard him do it, Adds to this version quality & when Garcia sings he's feeling it, so his solo part is extra good. Maine last Fall was also VERY good. The boy's obviously liked playing there!

Don't think i had ever heard this show before, and nice surprise. Very good sound to it, captures the room real nice. Only on the first set now, but has a nice vibe. Nothing too rushed, just solid playing with the whole band putting on a good performance. Hope I remember to listen to this show again, probly not until it pops up on the This Day In History again in 2017.

This is another decent show from '85, featuring an impressive second set. The first set is pretty uneventful with the exception of an excellent Bird Song.
The second set is excellently played with a very good song selection. The set starts off with a brief yet energetic China>Rider that features a nice transition jam and excellent leads in Rider. The Estimated that follows is excellent with passionate vocals by Bob, great group improve, a slick wah wah solo and great spacey outro jam. The Estimated is rushed and a bit to fast paced for my liking but the jamming is intense, leading into the Drums>Space segment. A brief Other One emerges out of Space but it features some nice psychedelic jamming before perfectly segueing into a beautiful Stella Blue. Jerry sounds great and this soulful rendition is near perfect. The rocking combo of Around and Around>NFA ends the show on quite a high.

Subject: High energy night
Subject: High energy night
After a amazing first night of this run, the band comes back even stronger. The first set is very good with a confessional Bertha from Jerry and then a rockin' GSET and then another look in the mirror song, West LA, which is scorching. The highlight of this set is clearly the Bird Song, although short in lenght it is focused and dymanic, and then a KILLER Tom's Thumbs Blues with Phil loving the spot light while adding a little April Fools fun. They next serve up a wonderul high energy LL Rain. Brent's organ sound on this one is sweet, as he is the entire show.
The Might As Well is good but has a couple misteps.
As is well known Jerry's voice on this tour was easily at it's worst, but he tries to power through and pulls it off on this night.
Set II starts off with a high energy fast paced reading of China> Rider which is also above average for this period. Another classic duo of Estimated> Eyes with the band and Jerry sound great. They play a nice slinky jam going into a very uptempo Eyes.
D/S is nothing outrageous but they serve up a intense Other One with the second verse being really good. Jerry brings us back down to earth with a lilting and sweet Stellar Blue, the bands sound during this year was unique and this version showcases that.
They rock us out with a set closing Around> NFA that really had us all in a joyous rapture.
Billy and Mickey even play alittle bit more after the band ends the song, very nice.
Jerry delivers a solid Baby Blue, with a couple lyrical snafus, but a nice finish and we were on our way into the early spring night of Portland.
Sound quality on this, and majority of the Oades brother's recordings, are freakin' exceptional.
I mean this recording feels like you are right there in the arena.
A wonderful treat to say the least.

Yeah, I'd agree that this is the better version of the two. The China>Rider and Estimated>Eyes are sick, Totally seamless segues between those songs. Jerry's voice isn't the hottest this night, but the fluidity of his playing is pure magic1 One of my favorite sets from all of 85.

This is another spring '85 gem. Just in case your wondering, the reference to April Fools is the one Phil makes after he sings Tom Thumbs. I've been downloading all these spring '85 Auds and I haven't been disappointed with any of them yet. I compared the two aud versions listed here, and I think this was the better one, but you should compare for yourself before downloading the whole show. The whole band is on fire for most of the show, lots of inspiration and energy, and Jerry doesn't miss many licks. His voice sounds rugged, but I don't mind that at all.
